Leading pharmaceutical
company in the Baltic States

1946-1956

The origins of «Grindeks» go back to 1946 when the Vitamin and Hormones Plant was transferred from the supervision of the Ministry of Food Production to that of the Latvian Academy of Sciences with the goal of gradually re-establishing it as an experimental plant.

At that time, the Vitamin and Hormones Plant was located at Ganibu dambis 21a in Riga in narrow buildings that were not particularly well-suited for technological processes.

The plant’s product offering at that time consisted of food concentrates, soy sauce, primrose syrup, beer yeast, microelement mixtures etc. that bear very little resemblance to the products that «Grindeks» manufactures today.
