In 1965 «Grindeks» started cooperation with the Japanese companies „Taiho Pharmaceutical” and „Iskra Industry”, but in 1972 company entered into agreement about the supply of the active pharmaceutical ingredient ftorafur (tegafurum) of the «Grindeks» brand product, anti-cancer agent Ftorafur® to the Japanese market.

During those years Latvian company gained recognition in the quality conscious Japanese market. Every month one 150 kilos of the active ingredient ftorafur is exported to Japan. Ftorafur is highly demanded in the Japanese market of anti-cancer agents, it is used in mono therapy as well as an ingredient in the creation of the contemporary anti-cancer agents UFT.

«Grindeks» also cooperates with Japanese company "Daiichi Sankyo" and supllies active pharmaceutical ingredient droperidol with asssistance of agent firm "Yoshindo Inc.".
